Figure 8 speed drill
This drill will help speed rushers a lot. if you've ever watched a good speed rusher play than you have definitely seen the after effects of this drill in action. one great example is brian orakpo. he fires off the ball low and hard he takes a good angle at the outside shoulder of the tackle making sure to only attack half a man. once he gains ground on the tackle you will notice either a club or a rip. we're going to focus specifically on the rip he violently thrusts his whole arm under the arm of the tackle and raises it up as high as he can. this is the point at which he is demonstrating the figure 8 drill to perfection. you've got the rip in and you just need that little extra leverage on the tackle to get past. so what do you need to do? lower your shoulder and your whole level and drive through. in the figure 8 drill there will be 2 circles set up. out team made them out of real flimsy pvc pipe
but you can make them out of anything. they should be set up about a foot apart so you can run around them obviously in a figure 8 shape. in the drill you need to emphasize that players lean to the inside of the circle and get low as much as they can while running aorund quickly as possible. you can add variations to it too like making it into a race or like duck duck goose where one person starts and then a second later another has to go catch him. to emphasize the technique used to pass and o-lineman put someone in the middle of both circles and have player rip through the bad and run through the 8 while leaning their shoulder and pressing into the bag.
